On this episode of Wax On we are breaking a jumbo hobby box of 2008 Topps Baseball Series Two. As expected series two is a good deal like series one. 330 base cards and 3 insert sets: Year in Review, Baseball Card History, and Topps Stars. Series two also contains some of the extra sets from series one; Campaign 2008, Topps All Rookie Team 50th Anniversary, the Mickey Mantle Home Run History and Mickey Mantle Story sets. They also threw in an extra set exclusive to series two: Historical Campaign Match-Ups. This set contains 55 cards featuring the final two candidates for every US presidential race. To go along with all of the campaign stuff there are also several one of one cut signatures of former US political leaders. The signature and parallel cards for series two are almost identical to series one. The main exceptions deal with 2007 highlights. 15 players have a relic and an autograph on a 2007 highlight card, these are sequentially numbered to 25. Another 15 card set features deal relics, each are sequentially numbered to 25. To round out the auto/relic cards Topps put together a set of 30 cards with patch relics commemorating the last season of Yankee and Shea stadiums. There is also one new parallel set in this product. 100 of the base cards from series 1 and 2 are made of silk and framed. Each of these cards is sequentially numbered to 50. Topps also decided to take a page out of their Topps Finest playbook. They inserted a series of redemption cards called Red Hot Rookies. There are 20 cards in the set, each card is sequentially numbered and is being billed as a red chrome refractor. In my box I received several Gold Foil parallels, 5 gold parallels, a nice selection of Topps Stars, a handful of All Rookie Team inserts, a stack of Year in Review inserts, a good selection of Campaign History inserts, some nice looking Baseball Card History inserts, three Mickey Mantle Story inserts, one Red Hot Rookie Redemption, two 2007 Highlight Relic inserts -- one of Brandon Webb the other of Aramis Ramirez, and one 2007 highlights signature of Eric Chavez.
