Oct 12, 2008 - Ha ha ha . Good point grasshopper. The election was that the Elder shall serve the younger. Jesus said unless you hate your father and mother you cannot be my disciple. In the jewish concept to hate means to favor considerably less. It does NOT mean that God harbors hatred towards ppl or that we should break one of the Ten Commandments to follow Christ. The offspring of Esau served the offspring of Jacob. Esau himself NEVER served Jacob. This election had NOTHING to do with salvation.

Nov 12, 2008 - @ Grasshopper Your whole premise against Calvinism is at default. God does choose people to be saved, but he doesn't choose people to go to hell. When we are born into this world we are all on the Road to hell. It's in God's Mercy that He says, I will call out a people for my name from evey tribe, Language, People and nations. He in eternity past choose( elected you) before the Foundation of the world. Written in the Lambs Book of Life, and gave you the gift of faith to be placed in you.

This is STRAIGHT from God's own mouth: "And the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger." Genesis 25:23. The illustration of Jacob and Esau was a direct reference to this prophecy which is referring to NATIONS, not individuals.
