SKY NEWS: Radovan Karadžić has been transferred to the custody of the war crimes court in The Hague after being flown to the Netherlands. He has been taken to a detention centre in the Dutch city. The chief UN prosecutor has said Karadžić will appear at the War Crimes Tribunal tomorrow afternoon to enter a plea on allegations of genocide and war crimes. He was flown to Rotterdam airport before being taken by helicopter to the detention center. Earlier in Belgrade, he was escorted to the airport by masked officials from the Serbian secret service. A convoy of black jeeps had taken him from prison to the capital's airport. His lawyer, Svetozar Vujačić, has admitted that an appeal against Karadžić's extradition was never posted, despite having said it was on its way. He told Serbian television: "No, it wasn't sent, this was the only way to prolong my client's stay in Serbia in order to enable his family to visit him from Bosnia." The wartime leader of the Bosnian Serbs was arrested this month after 11 years on the run. He has twice been indicted for genocide, first over the 43-month siege of Sarajevo. He was then charged in relation to the 1995 massacre of some 8,000 Muslims at Srebrenica - the worst atrocity in Europe since World War Two.

But they are really putting themselves in the dock, establishing precedents on the handling of legal procedure which, needless to say, will be happily used against them. So, the ICTY is very useful in this way, just like their recognition of Kosovo.
