A song I wrote about my gt gt grandada Samuel Holness Samuel was a smuggler, He sailed the Kent Coast, He was his own ship's master, But it was smuggling he did the most. Chorus He was born to sail the seas, and try out many lands, Fishing and trawling for months on end, To pay his way as a gentleman. Samuel became a smuggler, To pay for the food for his kids And he couldn't pay the taxman true, Feed his family is what he did. Samuel the reluctant smuggler,Was seen in all their hides, At cover of night in the Bay of Herne, He made sure he was by their sides. Samuel was a smuggler, He was never caught for it so, But the Lord found out and Sam paid the price, He died at 30 years I know. Samuel was a smuggler, And died of quincy off Brighton pier, His smuggling came to a sharp end, And his wife and kids shed a tear.
