JOHN Mc CAIN, addresses the 2008 RNC in ST. Paul accepting the Presidential Nomination John Sidney McCain III (born August 29, 1936) is the senior United States Senator from Arizona and presidential nominee of the Republican Party in the 2008 presidential election. McCain graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1958. He became a naval aviator, flying ground-attack aircraft from aircraft carriers. During the Vietnam War, he nearly lost his life in the 1967 USS Forrestal fire. Later that year while on a bombing mission over North Vietnam, he was shot down, badly injured, and captured as a prisoner of war by the North Vietnamese. He was held from 1967 to 1973, experiencing episodes of torture and refusing an out-of-sequence early repatriation offer; his war wounds would leave him with lifelong physical limitations. He retired from the Navy as a captain in 1981 and, moving to Arizona, entered politics. Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1982, he served two terms, and was then elected to the U.S. Senate in 1986, winning re-election easily in 1992, 1998, and 2004. While generally adhering to conservative principles, McCain has gained a media reputation as a "maverick" for disagreeing with his party on several key issues. After being investigated and largely exonerated in a political influence scandal of the 1980s as a member of the "Keating Five", he made campaign finance reform one of his signature concerns, which eventually led to the passage of the McCain-Feingold Act in 2002. He is also known for his work towards restoring diplomatic relations with Vietnam in the 1990s, and for his belief that the war in Iraq should be fought to a successful conclusion in the 2000s. McCain has chaired the Senate Commerce Committee, opposed pork barrel spending, and alleviated a crisis over judicial nominations. McCain lost his bid for the Republican nomination in the 2000 presidential election to George W. Bush. He ran again for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008, gained enough delegates to become the party's presumptive nominee in March 2008 and was formally nominated at the 2008 Republican National Convention on September 3. bubblingjet diyorki:

Nov 5, 2008 - don't say "some worthless country" please. yes, your country may be great, but that doesnt mean other countries are not.

HEarl114 diyorki:

Nov 6, 2008 - Nice speech, nice guy. Presidental material? nah.

x3mzzsammix3 diyorki:

Nov 6, 2008 - none of you all know exactly how the canidates would be if they are in office, yes im 100% obama, but like i said you never know what a good president is until they step into office-so before everyone balls out observe what obama really can change for the next 100 days, and it's not the youth's fault for the decision made it's THE WORLD so stop blaming "THE YOUTH"

x3mzzsammix3 diyorki:

Nov 6, 2008 - Fucking people with their mouths if your so called favorite canidate can accept it so can you,if obama does get assinated i do thank him for the couragethat stands within him and for the heart to change our nation (the end of my comment:] )

groseron diyorki:

Nov 6, 2008 - Fighting for your country does not necessarily make you the right candidate for presidency. That sort of idiotic mentality combined with "oh he seems sweet and humble," is what leads many people to vote for the wrong purpose/candidate. You should vote for their politics and what they're aiming to do to help our nation in this crisis, not some rubbish ideal of "American blood." Obama is just as American as him, the only difference is that McCain fought in a war that the US needn't be invloved in.

groseron diyorki:

Nov 6, 2008 - Don't get me wrong, I respect McCain, but I get tired of hearing people mention that "Oh, but McCain fought for our country and he was a soldier of war." As if that suddenly makes him the divine, patriotic candidate for presidency.

rocknroll30750 diyorki:

Nov 6, 2008 - dude.. all you can do is insult his looks??? real mature... and real smart

rocknroll30750 diyorki:

Nov 6, 2008 - only liberals make rude comments... i don't see any good comments from Republicans.. just rude ones.. from them Liberals

rocknroll30750 diyorki:

Nov 6, 2008 - dude, fighting for your country teaches you a lot, and it shows that you have the love and care for your country that it takes...

rocknroll30750 diyorki:

Nov 6, 2008 - dude.. any one that starts their comment with a cuss word.. such as "fucking" doesn't deserve a right to give their opinion... thats just rude, and imature

rocknroll30750 diyorki:

Nov 6, 2008 - best comment ive read in a while! i wish i could give you 10000 thumbs up!

rocknroll30750 diyorki:

Nov 6, 2008 - I agree partly, but Bush isn't THAT bad... he is bad.. but not THAT bad.. hahaha

groseron diyorki:

Nov 6, 2008 - I ask you, how does that justify him as the right candidate for presidency? At the end it is the actions and policies of the president that makes him a fit president, "love and care" is not enough. Your statement is absurd and should be thought out before stated. Maybe you should re-read my comment from before, I think it is fine that he served in the army but that should not be the sole or even main reason why people vote for him.

groseron diyorki:

Nov 6, 2008 - One more thing Chasity, if you'd follow politics from before the elections, you would have known that your "sweetest humbling" McCain has the reputation of being hot-headed in the Senate and has even insulted people such as Chelsea Clinton. I am not purposely trying to demote McCain, I just cannot stand the stupidity and ignorance of people. I would do the same with Obama if I felt that I had to prove someone wrong on an issue.

groseron diyorki:

Nov 6, 2008 - Crawford, last time I checked, his views were more socialist than "extremist liberal." Second, politicians, and yes presidential candidates too silly, try to sweet talk the American people to get into office, so it has been done before...constantly. In fact McCain (& also H. Clinton) had different stances on certain issues before he started running for presidency and has now changed them. It's a common practice and a game most, if not all, politicians play when running for office.

ChasityLeigh21 diyorki:

Nov 6, 2008 - obama says he is all about "change," and claims that he is going to help the american ppl, however, you're right in one aspect, we CANNOT truly know what kind of president he is until he is in office.I fear what kind of actual "changes"will be taking place!I'm not racist, nor am I a hateful individual.

ChasityLeigh21 diyorki:

Nov 6, 2008 - I'm 26 years old, and my husband and I are wth child on the way,and we both work hard for our money & really don't want to share it with lazy, unemployed ppl who wanna sit on their tails all day and watch tv instead of providing for their own families. I don't wanna "share the wealth," because I don't have that kind of money. lol

ChasityLeigh21 diyorki:

Nov 6, 2008 - And for thsoe who ant to "prove me wrong," say what you will however, aren't we all here to voice our opinions?!? OK then..enough said, because no matter what GROSERON or anyone says to me or anyone else on this topic, everyone will still shut their pc's down at night & still feel the same way. :) 2nd of all, if mcCain is "hot-headed," well he must blike most of the ppl on this blog, considering everyone gets irritated sometimes! ...........................At least HIS mentor wasn't racist.. :P

theman91111 diyorki:

Nov 6, 2008 - I am an OIF II Veteran. I've been to Iraq in 05-06. 3 of our soldiers died in combat. I've been in the front lines. The truth is, only parts of Iraq are safe right know (not the whole country). I think we should concentrate our efforts on Afghanistan, Al Queda, and Taliban. Believe me, there are no signs of Al Queda in Iraq! I've done over 800+ missions with Navy Seals, Special Forces, and Special Ops. Never found any signs of Al Queda. Get out of Iraq and stay the course in Afghanistan

theman91111 diyorki:

Nov 6, 2008 - The war on Iraq was Sunnis vs Shiites, one wants leadership over the other and we are caught in the middle of the conflict. I was told by officers that McCain's stay as a POW in Vietnam was used as a political strategy by the Vietcong. He did things both patriotic and unpatriotic (he gave out military intelligence to the enemy to get medical attention). If you are a soldier, you are supposed to only say your name and your social security # if asked by your captors. Keep it real. Peace out.

theman91111 diyorki:

Nov 6, 2008 - I'd rather fight in Vietnam than in Iraq. I'd rather fight someone who shoots and runs (Vietcong guerrilla fighters) than somebody who would sacrifice themselves in the name of Allah, just to kill me (suicide bombers). The lesson is, don't believe everything that McCain tells you about the military. Obama was right. We don't need small/big government, we need an effective government. A government that will work for everyone in the US.

Kissmyassisrael diyorki:

Nov 7, 2008 - i love it where he says at the end of his speech "we don't surrender"... yes, like in the Vietnam war, you surrendered, they kicked you out. In Iraq, u got ur asses kicked and we kicked u out and in Afghanistan u will get ur asses kicked even worse. WE WILL KICK YOU OUT OF EVERY ARAB AND MUSLIM COUNTRY YOU INVADE, YOU OCCUPY AND YOU TERRORIZE. Long Live Palestine, Long Live Iraq, Long Live Afghanistan, long live the Arab nations. DEATH TO ISRAEL DEATH TO AMERICAN FOREIGN POLICY LONG LIVE FREEDOM

chromesteel1 diyorki:

Nov 13, 2008 - 7:50-9:45....awesome! Regardless of who is in office, these words ring true! God bless our troops!
