This is my 2nd coil gun. It has 6 330v 80uf capacitors in parallel and is charged from a single AA battery (rather slow charge but wanted portable). It has ok power when charged to 250v (which i do in the firing vids). I am still learning so much more to come. Checkout http://www.projectmagnus.com/ for more coil guns and info.

Oct 26, 2008 - Man, you coilgun is very cool.....good design but need more power XD

Oct 26, 2008 - LOL tinha que ser o JUNIoR /\ || ||

Oct 27, 2008 - Yeah, version 2 wasn't about power, was just more learning. Magnus3 is 70% done and will be much more powerful. Probably have some videos of that in a week or 2. I fried my relay a few days ago so slight delay.

Oct 29, 2008 - ok send-me a mensage qhen you post the videos of magnus 3, and remember : use a diode in antiparallel whit the capacitor. What is the energy of the magnus 3?(in joules)... Tanks

projectmagnus diyorki:

Oct 29, 2008 - Magnus3 won't have any diodes for protection but Magnus4 will. I am basically doing 10 planned versions with adding 1 or 2 new improvements/features each version. Magnus3 added more power, a relay trigger and multiple charing boards. It currently has 3 400v 100uf caps in series and 4 of those in parallel so should get a decent amount of power when i get it finished.

Oct 29, 2008 - hummm...~12 capcitors of 400v x 100uf? ~192 joules of power...but try use a diode to protect the capcitors, see my coilgun videos....i'm working on the new upgrad i removed 7 capacitor now i'm using only one but the efficience is growing....and i will put a new coil and new heavy projectiles....

gooyzit diyorki:

Nov 18, 2008 - That's a start. Blow it through the block next time and do it from a distance of thirty feet.

projectmagnus diyorki:

Nov 18, 2008 - Thats the plan. This version was never about power or distance though. Was purely a learning the components better version. Have you achieved the 30 feet through foam? I would love to hear of your design.
